The United States regulators said artificial intelligence system piloting autonomous or self-driving car could be considered the driver under federal law. This decision would change the landscape of future technology which requires no human being to pilot a vehicle.
NHTSA will interpret ‘driver’ in the context of Google’s described motor vehicle design as referring to the (self-driving system), and not to any of the vehicle occupants. We agree with Google its (self-driving car) will not have a ‘driver’ in the traditional sense that vehicles have had drivers during the last more than one hundred years – NHTSA
Vehicle car manufacturers have been competing for each other in Research and Development to come out with technology which allows their car to be self-driving without the need for a human. Google even develop a radical self-driving which does not have pedals and steering wheel. The self-driving car brings cautious for passenger regarding its safety in an emergency situation or when the computer malfunction.
